Research Accomplishment Recognized with Honorary Award
The Commission for Controlling Desert Locust in the Central Region is pleased to announce that Mr. Fahad Alshamrani, a master's student from Saudi Arabia enrolled in the Locust Master Program at the Hassan II Institute of Agronomy and Veterinary Medicine (IAV) in Morocco, has won first place in the "Innovation for a Sustainable Future" competition organized by the International Association of Students in Agricultural and Related Sciences (IAAS), Morocco.
Supported by the Commission within the framework of the fourth component of the AFD-funded project, the Locust Master Program aims to strengthen capacity in sustainable locust control across the region.
Fahad’s project, titled "Evaluation and Testing of Drones for Operations Related to the Survey of Desert Locusts, explores the use of drone technology to improve monitoring and early warning systems. His work supports the Commission’s goal of establishing a sustainable control management system to help mitigate locust infestations, protect food security, and promote human well-being in the region.
Mr. Fahad Alshamrani successfully defended his master's thesis at the Hassan II Institute on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, and has been awarded a master's degree in Desert Locust Control Operations Management.
The Commission congratulates Fahad on this outstanding achievement.
