Early Detection and Early Warning

Early Detection and Early Warning

7/18/2025 12:00:00 AM

Early detection and timely warning are the cornerstone of effective desert locust control. Member countries play a critical role by conducting regular field surveys, maintaining trained survey teams, and monitoring ecological conditions conducive to locust breeding. By reporting locust sightings and environmental indicators promptly, they contribute essential data to the regional and global early warning systems managed by FAO. The CRC supports these efforts by enhancing national capacities through training, tools, and coordination mechanisms that ensure accurate and timely information flows. When countries actively monitor and share updates from the field, potential outbreaks can be identified and addressed before they escalate into large-scale invasions, thereby protecting livelihoods and food security across the region.
