7/18/2025 12:00:00 AM

The Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC) serves as a vital force against desert locust infestations by implementing the preventive control strategy in collaboration with relevant authorities in member countries. With 17 member states, this Commission stands as the largest of FAO's three regional locust control bodies, founded on principles of coordination and mutual cooperation. At its core, the CRC works to foster powerful collaborative relationships, facilitating the exchange of expertise, resources, and effective practices in locust management across its membership. The Commission maintains active partnerships with diverse national and regional organizations specializing in plant protection, agricultural research, and disaster management. By organizing training sessions, workshops, and joint initiatives, the CRC strengthens member states' abilities to monitor and control locust populations safely and effectively. This work safeguards agricultural output and food security throughout the region. Through its emphasis on partnership-building and unified action, the Commission works to reduce desert locust threats while supporting the sustainability of agriculture-dependent communities facing vulnerability
