Within the framework of developing national capacity, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has signed a contract for the construction of a new head office for the National Center for Controlling Locusts and Migratory Pests in Jeddah, with an area of 4 900 square meters, that expected to be completed within 30 months. The main building consists of three floors, which include administrative offices, a laboratory and an open space for breeding locusts and other insects for field research. It is worth mentioning that the National Center for Locusts Control and Migratory Pest, started work in 1960 under the name of the Locust Service. It aims at developing and implementing the workplan for controlling locusts and other pests migrating into Saudi Arabia. In addition to collaborating with neighboring countries and related international organizations through a team of professional staff. The Center has an inventory of 6 aircrafts, 54 vehicles, mobile camps, mobile devices and eLocust3 etc.
