Desert Locust Situation in ETHIOPIA, during September 2014
Survey has been conducted over 5315 ha in two district of Afar Administrative Regions (Mile and Chifra) and locust hoppers and fledgling adults were observed on 493 ha. Around 121 second instar hopper bands (1000-5000 m2 size) and fledgling stage (25-70m2) were found while one immature adult group was observed on 50 ha on September 27/2014 at N 11 26 56 E 40 27 23. Due to difficult topography and inaccessibility of some areas, the survey and control team could not access all reported and suspected areas in the region. The control operations conducted on 133.5 ha have been successfully controlled (100%kill) 121 hopper bands using 68 lts of Malathion 95%ULV.
