Kuwait is located in the Middle East, bordering the Persian Gulf, between Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Kuwait is bounded on the north and northwest by Iraq, Saudi Arabia on south and southwest; on the east by Persian Gulf. Kuwait has a total area of 17,820 km2.

Kuwait is located at the head of the Persian Gulf, flat to slightly undulating desert plain, the highest point unnamed location about 306 m.

The climate in Kuwait is dry desert; intensely hot summers; short, cool winters sudden cloudbursts are common from October to April and bring heavy rain.

Kuwait is a small, rich, relatively open economy with proved crude oil reserves of about 96 billion barrels - 10% of world reserves. Petroleum accounts for nearly 95% of export revenues, and 80% of government income. Kuwait's climate limits agricultural development. Consequently, with the exception of fish, it depends almost wholly on food imports. Due to the limited natural fresh water resources; some of world’s largest and most sophisticated desalination facilities provide much of the water, where about 75% of potable water must be distilled or imported.

Kuwait does not harbour Desert Locust breeding areas; the Sector of Plant Protection & Quarantine, Department of Research & Agriculture Nurses of the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs & Fish Resources based in Kuwait is responsible for Desert Locust control in case of an emergency situation.
