The State of Qatar is a peninsula located in the central Persian Gulf. It is bounded on the north and east by the Persian Gulf, on the south by Saudi Arabia and on the west by the Gulf of Bahrain. It has a total area of 11,000 km2.
Qatar mostly flat and barren desert covered with loose sand and gravel, the highest point is Qurayn Abu al Bawl 103 m.
The climate in Qatar is arid; mild, pleasant winters; very hot, humid summers.
Oil is the backbone of the economy and accounts for 90% of export earnings and more than 80% of government revenues in Qatar. Agriculture is limited to farming and grazing on small scale; commercial fishing increasing in importance; most food imported.
Qatar does not harbour Desert Locust breeding areas, the Agricultural Development Department of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs & Agriculture based in Doha is responsible for Desert Locust control in case of an emergency situation.
