Kingdom of Bahrain is located in the Middle East, archipelago in the Persian Gulf, and east of Saudi Arabia. It has no land boundaries of a 161 km coastal line and a total area of 665 km2.

Bahrain mostly low desert plain rising gently to low central escarpment, highest point: Jabal ad Dukhan 122 m.

The climate in Bahrain is arid; mild, pleasant winters; very hot, humid summers. Bahrain is tiny in area; the natural resources are oil, associated and non-associated natural gas and fish. Petroleum production and processing are account for about 80% of export receipts and 60% of government revenues. Agriculture is limited to a small scale farming not self-sufficient in food production; heavily subsidized sector produces fruits, vegetables, poultry, dairy products, shrimps and fish; most food imported.

Bahrain does not harbour Desert Locust breeding areas; the Plant Wealth Directorate of the Ministry of Municipalities Affairs & Agriculture based in Manama is responsible for Desert Locust control in case of an emergency situation.
